Who is Agra Fort?

History of Agra Fort
Agra Fort was built by Akbar between 1565 and 1573. This Fort is 2.5 kilometers away from the Taj Mahal. It turned into the principale house of the Mughal emperors for numerous generations and served because the capital of the Mughal Empire till Shah Jahan moved the capital to Delhi. This Fort was earlier a brick fort and was captured by Mahmud Ganjanavi. On 21 April 1526, a battle took place between Sultan Ibrahim Lodi of Delhi and Babur. Ibrahim Lodhi was the son of Sikandar Lodhi and Sikandar Lodhi (1487-1517), the first Sultan of the Delhi Sultanate.
It was later captured by the Lodis and finally by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in the 16th century, who made it the main residence of the Mughal emperors. After the primary fight of Panipat, Agra Fortification was captured by Babar and Babar took absent all the property, treasure and in this treasure there was too a jewel which afterward got to be celebrated by the title of Kohinoor jewel. Babar’s son Humayun was made the king of Agra Fort. After some time, Shershah Suri defeated Humayun and occupied Fort for 5 years. Humayun’s son Akbar defeated him in the second war in 1556 and Akbar decided to make Badalgarh (Old name of Agra Fort) the capital.

Seeing the condition of Fort, Akbar got the Agra Fort renovated. Agra Fort was renovated for 8 years. This Fort was renovated for 8 years and at the time of the construction of the Taj Mahal, some of the walls of the This Fort were broken by Shah Jahan. Aurangzeb had imprisoned Shahjahan in Agra Fort and it was there that Shahjahan died. Agra Fort was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, recognizing its cultural significance and architectural brilliance.
Agra Fort was ruled by the Marathas but after the defeat of the Marathas in the third battle of Panipat in 1761, it was captured by Ahmed Shah Abdali. Finally Mahadevji Shinde captured the fort in 1785 and then placed it in this Fort under British rule. After independence, Fort is ruled by the Government of India.
Construction
Agra Fort was rebuilt by Akbar and the fort is spread over an area of about 3 kilometers. It is mainly made of red sandstone and has a unique appearance. The fortress covers an area of approximately 94 hectares and is surrounded by huge ramparts and several impressive gates. He built it of red sandstone. Its foundations were laid by great architects. It is built of brick on the inside and red sandstone for the exterior cladding.
Notable Structures
Angoori Bagh, Baghiri Mahal, Khas Mahal, Machli Bhawan, Rang Mahal, Sheesham Mahal, Shahjahan Mahal are present in this Fort. There are some special things there.
Diwan-i-Am: This large hall was used by the emperor to address the common people and hear their grievances.
Diwan-i-Khas: A more intimate hall where the emperor met with his ministers and dignitaries. It is famous for its beautiful marble work and the famous Peacock Throne, which was later moved to the Red Fort in Delhi.
Moti Masjid : A small and beautiful mosque made of white marble.
Sheesh Mahal: A dazzling palace decorated with intricate mirror work.
